The endeavor to narrate a life’s story is always unique. T. Rodgers is very much alive and well. Some have found him controversial. There are still believers in the old “picket till you drop” school of thought that believe that token appearances move mountains. They are quick to mention Dr. Martin Luther King. What’s overlooked is that Mr. King had his birthday declared a holiday. However up until this very day the state of Arizona has refused to recognize or respect the mandate. What does that say about the growth or concern for people of color? or the poor? or the scores of invisible people whose community only makes the news when there’s extreme violence.
What happens when the violence appears? news trucks, videos and then the latest sport scores. Done deal. Larger America does not even lose a moments sleep. However, that community has to survive. Young folks have to be given a menu that goes beyond red and blue. Something beyond “Gangland” on t.v. Many complain but very few have the heart or resolve to address this situation. We don’t need more headline grabbers. The superficial has become worse than the original sin.
T. Rodgers is still a resident and grandfather in the very community where he commanded respect from the very legions of warriors that seem to keep media fascinated and headline seeking . The gun dealers with the high profit margins don’t come from the hoods. Prisons are high end business whose population is almost always from the poorer hoods. . The city Housing projects keep the unwanted criminal element stacked on top of each other and pissed off enough to kill each other like rats in a cave. The so called sociologist try to cleverly reduce the problems to red vs. blue .
Yes, T. is not rich. In terms of grants and donations from the city of Los Angeles. the city is more prone to give him handcuffs quicker than fiscal support. It’s like I said. It’s high profit. So what’s the solution? Simple answer. We as a community have to spend less time listening to the politicians define us. We have to step up and go toe to toe with the confusion. My elders are under siege. Unacceptable. T. should never be a solo act. It’s not the sixties anymore. It’s get behind our warriors time. Our warriors. not theirs.
This site is about one of these warriors. Isikulu T. Rodgers. Beyond the hype and the spotlight the work has to be done. He has chosen to make the effort. What about you?
